Financial support for activities related to Individual Research Plan

The Doctoral School of Social Sciences at the University of Warsaw offers the possibility of obtaining co-financing for the costs of trips related to participation in conferences, workshops, summer schools, etc.

The main goal of the programme is to support financially activities related to Individual Research Plan and presence of Ph.D. Students in international academic community.

Program is addressed to Ph.D. Students of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at the UW, who plan activities related to international dissemination of results of their research or improving their research qualifications.

The rules for applying for funding the costs of participation in conferences, workshops, summer schools, etc. include the following points:

1. Three calls for proposals: by 18 December 2019, by 20 March 2020, in October 2020. Award decision will be announced about one month after submission deadlines.
2. Only future events may be funded. It is not acceptable to refund participation in conferences or courses that have already taken place.
3. One of important goals of the programme is to support presence of Ph.D. Students in international academic community. Therefore, preference will be given to participation in the international academic event, in particular those organised by leading universities and/or the most reputable international academic organisations.
4. In terms of funding for participation in the conferences:
   a.  It will concern active participation with papers (information about accepting an abstract is needed) connected with the implemented doctoral projects.
   b.  According to main goal of the programme, preference will be given to international conferences of recognised reputation (organised by reputable networks or academic organisations and the best universities)
5. In terms of funding for summer schools, participation in methodological workshops, etc., preference will be given to schools, workshops with a recognised academic reputation (organised by recognised networks or academic organisations and the best universities).
6. In some situations it will be possible to finance all justified costs, but the most common rule will be to finance part of the costs (e.g. travel ticket, conference fee, accommodation costs).
7. It is recommended that the application is accompanied by an opinion or consent of the supervisor of your Ph.D. dissertation (the candidate for the supervisor, if the supervisor has not yet been formally appointed).
8. Before a conclusion, applications will be assessed by a team consisting of three persons appointed by the Head of the School from among the members of the School Council, and representing various scientific disciplines.

Applications 

1. Applications should be submitted electronically by e-mail to the address of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences (szkola.ns@uw.edu.pl), on the form available here

Submission of an application in a different way than on the form, or failure to complete all the fields in the form may result in that application will be refused.

2. It is recommended that the application is accompanied by an opinion or consent of the supervisor of Ph.D. dissertation (the candidate for the supervisor, if the supervisor has not yet been formally appointed). To the form and an opinion or consent of the supervisor other documents, like information about accepting an abstract, should be added.

Before departure:

1. Complete and sign  Wniosek wyjazdowy , a and then submit:

• to Head of Doctoral School of Social Sciences, prof. Pawel Swianiewicz – for acceptance*,
• to Izabela Pawłowska from Doctoral School Secretary’s Office – to confirm founding sources.

*in the case of co-financing a trip by another Department at UW, the travel application has to be sign by representant of the Bursar and Head of the Department.

Then the form has to be submit in Section of Foreign Projects in the Department of Finances and Accounting of the University of Warsaw (Karowa 20, 10:00-14:00, room 406)

The form has to include information about financing.

2. Airline tickets are bought in WhyNotTRAVEL office. Form is recuired to be submitted to the Office and:

• „Zlecenie zakupu biletu”
• or – „Zlecenie na zakup biletu na przelot „tanią linią lotniczą” 

After arrival:

1. Complete and submit in Section of Foreign Projects in the Department of Finances and Accounting of the University of Warsaw (Karowa 20. 10:00-14:00, room 406)

and copy of it in Doctoral School Secretary’s Office (Krakowskie Przedmieście 1, 10:00-14:00).

update: 2nd call for applications of financial support

Head of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences, prof. Paweł Swianiewicz, announces the 2nd call for applications for funding participation in conferences, workshops, summer schools etc.

This announcement is addressed at Ph.D. Students of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at University of Warsaw, who plan activities related to international dissemination of results of their research or improving their research qualifications.

Applications can be submitted to the address: szkola.ns@uw.edu.pl until 20th March 2020.

Financial support information for the 2019-2020 Academic Year

In December 2019 School received 5 applications. Grants awarded to the following Ph.D. students:

1. Nigina Misirova (pedagogy) – 2620 PLN (requested amount: 2620 PLN), for participation in EERA summer school in Jyvaksyka (Finland).
2. Mateusz Ambrożek (political science and administration) – 1400 PLN (requested amount: 1400 PLN) for participation in the academic conference “Faces of War” in London.
3. Stanisław Zakroczymski (law) – up to 1100 PLN (requested amount: 4000 PLN) for participation in the NISPAcee Annual Conference in Split (Croatia).
