Participation in conferences – financial support

Financial support for activities related to participation in conferences, summer schools etc.

The Doctoral School of Social Sciences at the University of Warsaw offers the possibility of obtaining co-financing of the costs related to participation in conferences, workshops, summer schools, etc.

The main goal of the programme is to support financially activities related to Individual Research Plan and presence of Ph.D. Students in international academic community.

Program is addressed to second year Ph.D. Students of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at the UW, who plan activities related to international dissemination of results of their research or improving their research qualifications.

The rules for applying for funding the costs of participation in conferences, workshops, summer schools, etc.:

  1. Application should be submitted until December 10th 2020. The results will be announced around December 21st. The applications should be sent via email to the following address:  szkola.ns@uw.edu.pl. The application form is available below.
  2. Only future events may be funded. It is not acceptable to refund participation in conferences or courses that have already taken place.
  3. One of the important goals of the programme is to support presence of Ph.D. students in international academic community. Therefore, preference will be given to participation in the international academic events, in particular those organised by leading universities and/or the most reputable international academic organisations.
  4. In terms of funding for participation in the conferences:
    a.  It will concern active participation with papers (information about accepting an abstract is needed) connected with the implemented doctoral projects.
    b.  According to the main goal of the programme, preference will be given to international conferences of recognised reputation (organised by reputable networks or academic organisations and the best universities)
  5. In terms of funding for summer schools, participation in methodological workshops, etc., preference will be given to schools, workshops with recognised academic reputation (organised by recognised networks or academic organisations and the best universities).
  6. In some cases it will be possible to finance all justified costs, but the most common rule will be to finance part of the costs (e.g. conference fee, travel ticket, accommodation costs). Travel abroad is permitted if the applicable laws and the recommendations and guidelines of the Chief Sanitary Inspector do not contradict this. The person travelling abroad is responsible for having valid health insurance for the period of travel and stay abroad.
  7. It is recommended that the application is accompanied by an opinion or consent of the supervisor of your Ph.D. dissertation.
  8. Before the results are established, applications will be assessed by a team consisting of persons appointed by the Head of the School from among the members of the School Council, and representing various scientific disciplines.
  9. Submission of an application in a different way than with the use of application form, or failure to complete all the fields in the form or submit all the necessary documents may result in that the application will be rejected. The application form and an opinion or consent of the supervisor should be accompanied by other documents, e.g. information about the abstract having been accepted by the concerned institution.

The doctoral student who has been granted the financial support should contact the School in order to obtain information on the formalities. Doctoral students who do not carry out the necessary formalities may not receive the funding.
