Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences

3rd year – extra info about classes

Dear PhD students,

below we are publishing extra information about courses – a kind of supplement to the post regarding the Program of Study and its realization during the 3rd year.

PRACTICE

Each PhD student is obliged to realize practice in the amount of hours required by the Programme of Study, specific for each discipline.
You all have been registered in USOS for a proper amount of hours by the School’s Office – just like it was last year.
We remind you that person responsible for giving credits for the course is coordinator of practice and does it when a PhD student submits a filled and signed practice card form.
The list of coordinators is to find in a separate post. The practice card form you can download from the section Documents.

RESEARCH SEMINAR II

According to the Programme of Study each PhD student must realize another 60hrs of seminars up to the end of 4th year.
The rules of rgistration, participating and  getting credits are similar to the rules applying to Research Seminar I which you have done by the end of the 2nd year.
As a reminder we are informing you that you can divide obligatory hours quite flexibly, which means you can do 30hrs during 3rd year and then remaining 30hrs on the 4th year or you can also realize 60hrs at once on 3rd/4th year. That is why USOS gives you choice between two courses: Research Seminar II -30hrs or Research Seminar II – 60hrs. If you decided to do only 30hrs on the 3rd year, please choose the first option. If you have already done 60hrs during the 3rd year, please register for the second option. When you prefer to do 60hrs later, on the 4th year, please ignore the registration.
We also remind that credits for seminars are given by coordinators of seminars when PhD students deliver a proof of passing seminars at their faculties or an external seminar card (applying only to seminars realized in external institutions). Names of coordinators of seminars are published in a  separate post. The external seminar card is available in the section Documents.

REGISTRATION FOR RESEARCH SEMINAR II WILL BE OPEN FROM 1ST JUNE 2022 (00:00) TO 20TH JUNE 2022 (23:59).

ADDITIONAL SPECIALISATION CLASSES do not apply to disciplines of biological and Earth and environmental sciences

The Programme of Study also provides additional specialisation classes to be done during the 3rd year of study and that is why you all have been registered for the course by the School’s Office.
Getting credits for the course follows the same rules like Research Seminar I/II or Practice. It means you need a kind of confirmation you have passed a chosen course at the faculty, so that a proper coordinator can give you credit for addtional classes. The coordinators are the same like for Research Seminar.
Details about the type of required courses are described in the Programme of Study.
In case of any doubts with choosing courses we suggest you contact your supervisor or further the coordinator.
