Q&A new programme of study

• If I will take classes “Theories, methods and research traditions” in a discipline different than my own, will they be counted as part of the education program or will they be counted as additional classes not included in the program?

“Theories, methods and research traditions” classes are related to the discipline, so those from another discipline implement the educational program only with the explicit indication of the supervisor.

• How do PhD students report on Teaching Practices? Do they submit an internship pass sheet every year or, after completing 30 hours, do they indicate retroactively in what years how many hours they completed?

Every year, doctoral students report the hours of teaching practice completed, in an annual report. Passing score in USOS is entered by the secretary office when the minimum number of hours is reached.

• Do the classes within the modules have to be completed in all of each module, or 1 or 2 of each module enough?

– “Theories, methods and research traditions” classes – the doctoral student, in consultation with the supervisor, selects one

– Methodological classes – The doctoral student is obliged to complete one 30-hour cycle or one 30-hour class, and has the right, in consultation with the supervisor, to choose those not necessarily offered by the discipline in which he/she is writing his/her dissertation.

– In the “Humanist Workshop” there are no instructions as above

– Vocal emission classes from the teaching module are fully optional (non-obligatory).

 

• Are there any classes that PhD students do not have to take, i.e. optional but not obligatory?

Most facultative classes are optional. Others as recommended:

– “Theories, methods andresearch traditions” classes – the doctoral student, in consultation with the supervisor, selects one

– Methodological classes – The doctoral student is obliged to complete one 30-hour cycle or one 30-hour class, and has the right, in consultation with the supervisor, to choose those not necessarily offered by the discipline in which he/she is writing his/her dissertation.

• How many hours of the Scholar’s workshop can supervisors complete per year? Can they transfer hours between individual years of education and how?

20 hours must be completed in each year of education. “Scholar’s workshop” classes will be entered in USOS for the summer semester, every year for 4 years. Registration in USOS is not required for the “Scholar’s workshop”. Applications for changes to the class schedule will be considered individually.

 

• Can any (additional) classes conducted at the University of Warsaw be recognized as classes from the new program, e.g. a seminar or methodological classes?

No, due to the need to implement the learning outcomes at PQF level 8. An exception may be classes conducted at other Doctoral Schools, but the individual decision procedure will always apply.

 

• Teaching practice – the program recommends conducting 10 hours of classes in the form of assistance (out of 30). Can all hours be an assistance or after completing 10 hours the remaining 20 hours should be self-directed? Do we use the assist/independent hours conversion rate or do we count the hours 1:1, regardless of the form in which they are carried out?

We recommend that the Teaching practice be carried out in the following way: 10 hours of assistance at the beginning, then 20 hours, which can be carried out in the form of independent classes or further assistance. There are no conversion rates, the form of internship implementation is as agreed with the Supervisor.
