Doctoral School of Humanities

CENTRAL workshop 2023

Universities in Prague (prof. Ota Konrád), Vienna (prof. Philipp Ther and prof. Claudia Kraft) and Warsaw (prof. Jerzy Kochanowski) organize on April 24- 25, 2023 in Vienna, a workshop for doctoral students (the previous one was held in March 2022 in Prague). Next year’s workshops will focus on the history of transformation after the breakthroughs of 1918/1945/1989. With transformation in mind, the organizers refer to the theory of Karl Polanyi, which allows to go beyond the region of Central and Eastern Europe. This will enable the analysis of transformative social, economic and cultural changes in the longer term from a comparative and transnational perspective in different parts of Europe and beyond. An interdisciplinary view is important, from history to sociology, anthropology or economics. Especially (but not exclusively) PhD students in these disciplines are invited to submit proposals for presentations (up to 200 words, in English) by January 15, 2023.

Applications will be assessed by organizers selecting four participants from the University of Warsaw. Travel costs, accommodation, etc. covers the CENTRAL network.

Applications should be sent to the following address: j.p.kochanowski@uw.edu.pl
