Interdisciplinary Doctoral School

For First Year PhD candidates

Dear First Year PhD candidates,

Congratulations on becoming PhD candidates of the Doctoral School at the University of Warsaw!

The inauguration of the academic year at the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School will take place on 4 October (Monday) at 6:30 PM in the Conference Room (Collegium Artes Liberales UW, level -1), Warsaw, Dobra Street 72.

The event is planned in a hybrid format as you have been notified by email.

The oath

In accordance with the School’s Regulations, you acquire your rights as a doctoral student when you take the following oath:

“I solemnly swear that I will constantly strive to acquire knowledge and develop my personality, respect academic laws and customs and show consideration for the dignity and honour of the student of the University of Warsaw in all my conduct”.

According to the decision of the Director of MSD, Prof. Paweł Stępień, the deadline for taking the oath is 1st October 2021.

Taking the oath must be confirmed in the USOSweb system (screen available after logging in) between 1 and 31 October 2021. In the event of failure to take the oath the doctoral student may be removed from the list of doctoral students.

PhD Candidates’ ID Cards

We are making every effort to make your PhD Candidates’ ID cards ready for collection as soon as possible, however, it is not within our control. Therefore, please contact us by email in advance to check if your ELD is ready for collection. Collection of your electronic doctoral student card is possible by appointment through the calendar available on the website (LINK).

To apply for a dormitory, follow these steps in the USOSweb: COMMON SECTION > APPLICATIONS > Applications that you can submit – choose the appropriate form – Housing application – fill in

Medical Examination

In accordance with the Minister of Health Regulation (Official Journal of Laws of 2019, item 141) doctoral students of the doctoral schools shall undergo periodic medical examinations.

For that purpose you should:

  1. Collect the referral for medical examination at the Doctoral School Secretary’s Office (general one and the test for tuberculosis).
  2. Make an appointment with your supervisor in order to obtain the list of factors harmful to your health on your referral.
  3. Schedule a visit at Centermed (a health centre).
  4. Submit a certificate issued by a Centermed doctor to the Doctoral School Secretary’s Office and present it at the faculty, if it is required to get access to the laboratories. Documents can be sent by e-mail to the school address – szkola.m@uw.edu.pl

ORCID

As a researcher you need to have an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID). ORCID allows you to be identified, e.g. in the case of scientific publications. Please generate your number at: LINK. Please follow the link for instructions and the declaration form (LINK). You must fill out the ORCID declaration form, print it out, sign and submit it by 31.10.2021 to the Doctoral Schools Secretary’s Office.

Email address registered in the domain uw.edu.pl

We kindly ask you to create an email account in the domain uw.edu.pl as soon as possible. Without such an email address it will not be possible for you to access the online courses. You may set your account here. People who already have an address in the @student.uw.edu.pl domain and want to be in the @uw.edu.pl domain should visit the website https://dodaj.google.uw.edu.pl. Please send information about your email address in the UW domain to: szkola.m@uw.edu.pl by 15 October 2021.

We would like to remind you that in accordance with the UW Rector’s Order No. 279 of 10 December 2020 on electronic mail of the University of Warsaw:
Every employee, doctoral student and student of the University is obliged to have and use University electronic mail on an ongoing basis, including receiving messages. In matters related to the University’s business where the use of electronic mail is necessary, users are required to use only University electronic mail. Correspondence from an employee, student or doctoral student of the University sent from an electronic address other than University electronic mail shall be justify unacknowledged.

Scholarship

The doctoral scholarship amounts to 2371.70 PLN (approximately 2100 PLN net). It is paid (without holiday break) app. on the 17th of each month. The first payment in the new academic year is scheduled for 15-18 October.

USOS

The Doctoral Schools administrative staff are currently entering your data into the USOS system. If you do not have PESEL number you will receive soon an e-mail with your new password and PESEL.

Courses

Information about classes in the first semester of education has been collected at this address: [LINK].

Registration for classes of the first semester is planned from 4 to 12 October. It will take place via the USOSweb system.
